Before you ask for a quote, decide

• What is the scope: a full property cleanout, an estate cleanout, a garage cleanout, a hoarder cleanout, or a single room?
• Whether the cleanout follows a death, a probate, a move to assisted living, a downsizing, a foreclosure or an estate sale.
• Whether a deadline applies, such as a closing or a move date.

Questions to ask every company

1. What exactly is included in the cleanout: which rooms, items and types of debris, and what condition will the home be left in?
2. How is the cleanout priced: by load, by volume, by room, or a flat scope price, and what would change the price?
3. Who does the work, your own crew or subcontractors, and what is the timeline, including multi-load jobs?
4. How are donations, recycling and disposal handled, and do I get receipts for donated items?
5. What does the written quote cover, and what would change it once work starts?
6. What cleanup is included at the end: broom-clean, deep cleaning, or just removal, and what happens to items left behind?
